TN: 2006 Copain Syrah Harrison Clarke (USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley)

  • 2006 Copain Syrah Harrison Clarke - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley (1/30/2010)
Medium dark ruby red. Very pleasant black fruit aromas. On the palate we have blackberries, black cherry, a little smoke and some white pepper. Intense fruit flavors and nice balance. An aftertaste the linters for 45+ seconds.

Recently, I’ve been whipping throught syrah like Sherman through Georgia. Many great soldiers have fallen from storied names such as Alban, Big Basin, Carlisle, Saxum, Dehliner and Copain. The '06 Harrison Clarke is very, very worthy! (92 pts.)

You have been drinking well lately, judging by your recent notes (which I have enjoyed). I haven’t had the 2006 HC for quite a while, but I remember it having a really interesting chalk element to it. Does that ring a bell? In any event, I agree that this is a really good bottle of Syrah.

Thanks Brad. After another small taste, I did notice a touch of chalk and some minerality. This is a wine that I’ve overlooked, but it is very nice!

I have one left, which I’ll try to keep my hands off of for at least six months.

Love this wine. Thax for the note

Thanks for the notes . . . Small vineyard in the Ballard Canyon area in between Tierra Alta and Purissima - not bad neighbors IMHO!!!

The owners of this vineyard also produce their own syrah and grenache - would be interesting to try them side by side!

Cheers!

Mike,

Great minds think alike. I enjoyed this wine last night as well.

Brian, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. I was glad to see some incoming '07 Copain Harrison Clarke on my CT “Pending deliveries” list.

Mike,

I did. Check my note in the Syrah Saturday thread.

Word from the winery is that the 2007 will require significant time in the bottle before it unwinds. I have some in my cellar, and it is buried.
