I’m under the impression that Wells is releasing the 07 Brosseau later this week. So I thought I’d taste the 06 - hopefully think it was just OK and pass on the 07 (Wells is also releasing Gary’s, I believe, the closest thing to a “home vineyard” for me. Can’t pass on that).
14.5% alcohol.
Medium dark ruby red. Cherries and cloves in a very expressive nose. On the palate, we have a fairly complex concoction of concentrated black cherry, white pepper and forest floor. Lingering aftertaste.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is really fine stuff. Great balance. wonderful concentration and that patented Copain finesse. 94-96 points. (I drank too much of it to be more precise)
Chalone is also pretty close to where I live. Even though my house is bursting at the seam with wine, I must have the 07.
Wells, you’re pissing me off!!! ![wink [wink.gif]](/uploads/db3686/original/2X/0/04707e6a7bbb03e0153e349d8a9270d30e1e9525.gif)
Wells seemingly could do no wrong in 2007. I am looking forward to this release as well. Between this, the Gary’s and the Wentzel re-release, it’s a pretty strong “must purchase” for me. Thank you for the note.
Mike, you are right, both Garys’ and Brosseau this week.
Where the hell is Rob Winn? He LOVES Copain Brosseau.
And yes, the 2007 Copain syrahs are across the board excellent–a marriage of vintage and the new Wells style.
Mike, make a note now to ensure you try the 2008 Copain Halcon syrah. If it remains as good as it was from barrel, holy cow.
How about that Copain release today? I have been looking forward to receiving the email since you posted this note. I’m taking my Syrah allocation (only one 3-pack of Brosseau, sadly, but plenty of Gary’s) and maybe more of the Wentzel PN.
Pretty soon I’m going to need a separate cellar just for Copain.
I’m in the same boat Brad, I just keep-um at the winery as long as I can and don’t have-um shipped till I have room.
Thanks for the note Mike. Haven’t opened an '06 yet, but sounds like a winner. I’ll have to grab one from storage this weekend (need to start making room for the new stuff anyway). Locked in the '07 tonight since there is so little of it, and hope to grab some of the Gary’s before the end of the ordering period once the smoke clears from the debit card on my recent purchases.
Frank - really enjoyed the video tasting notes. Good job! I did notice that youtube put the videos in the same category as men’s fashion shows and ice skating though. Apparently they missed the part where you were crushing granite with your bare hands!
I hope to have the privilege to visit the winery someday. Had an email in August which indicated periodic opportunities to accompany Wells on vineyard visits. The first one was to Kiser in Anderson Valley and High Rock Ranch in Yorkville Highlands. Sounds like that would be an awesome opportunity to experience the terroir and wines together.
Cheers,
Steve
