TN: 2006 Castle Rock Mendocino Zinfandel

Drain food. Don’t bother.

I’m not too shocked by this. Most bulk Zin from Mendo in that year we’re very strong. You’d probably have to boost it with some Petite make it very good.

What was the price, just so I know?

CH

$10

love Mendocino Co wines and maybe in a hot summer like 2006 Zin can flourish there but why bother? so many cold weather varietals love Mendocino and just do famously there.

Yeah Glenn;

But Mendo is really the tale of two counties. Anderson Valley is great for Pinot. Gewurtz sparkling etc, but inland is pretty darn warm. Things like Grenache and Petite that need some warmth do well on our ‘side of the hill’. [good.gif]

Is there really much Zin up there, Casey?

man i love ridin’ Hwy 253 towards 101. where are you in relation to those roads Casey?

Eric;

I don’t have the acreage, but Zin is huge in Ukiah, Hopland, Redwood Valley and Calpella, let along the Talmage bench. Don’t forget all of the ridges too.

Glenn;

We’re up on the mountain on the east side of Ukiah at about 1800 feet. I can look across and see the cars comong down 253 at night right at eye level, about 6-7 miles away. You all know that Edmeades and Rosenblum have numerous Mendo bottlings right? Then there’s the Coro project. Zin Based red blend.

Fetzer made some lovely Zins from Lolonis and Ricetti vineyards in the 70s and 80s. They were some of the very first organically farmed vineyards in CA if I’m not mistaken.
