CA syrah sucks, it’s got no following…stop already, plz. So my Carlisle arrived today, god bless GSO. So, to honor the delivery, out with the cork on this 2006. Good tidings to all youze Carlisle drinkers–let’s stick together and fly that damn CA syrah flag with pride.
2006 Carlisle Syrah Sonoma County- USA, California, Sonoma County (12/8/2009)
Moving in one year cycles on this wine, last bottle tasted Dec 2008. This was a bottle that I discovered in my yearly cellar clean up…good bottle karma requires I drink it, of course! Pop and pour…dark color and can’t see the bottom of the glass. Bacon fat, plush texture that shows charred cherry, blackberry, licorice and a fair amount of acidity to keep the plump flavors lively. The acidity carries through the finish on the back palate. Syrah is dead, syrah is dead…uh no, it’s not. Enjoy through 2012. QPR winner again.
My favorite everyday drinking syrah from CA by far. Blown through probably 9 bottles this year alone. Its just so darn good and hard to keep my hands off of them.
I have 5 more, I would love to see how they develop over the next few years.
I’d say another 12-18 months for peak. As this wine airs, some dark chocolate notes on the finish. With all the good CA syrah out there now, it’s a real pleasure to be drinking wine these days.
Nice note Frank. I’ll fly the flag with you as I buy, drink, and enjoy plenty of Ca. Syrah. Don’t want to throw out any names, but that one Guy sounds like he went heavy on Syrah one year and couldn’t unload it- Bitterness at it’s finest
