For those of you who may not frequent Cellartracker, I put my notes in there regularly and I use the software to read the narratives for community perspective relative to things like aging potential and where the wine is landing relative to the palates I follow. I have yet to meet Paul Gordon but he’s the man growing the Halcon fruit he sells to Copain, as well as his vineyard is just up the hill from Hawks Butte. He gets syrah, you can say. I read his note tonight after I opened this Carlisle and I really resonated with his take on the wine. If you don’t use Cellartracker, well, you ought to. But if you just can’t, then here is his note. I offer mine below as well to help frame where this Dry Creek 06 stands on my own palate. Thanks for reading…
Tasted by pgordon62 on 10/16/2010 & rated 90 points: Soft meatiness, floral blackberry, cracked black peppercorn and chocolate caramel. A full, caressing mouthfeel. Given the vintage and terroir, surprisingly controlled, complexed and interesting. Should improve over the medium term.

If you’re seeing my note in Cellartracker, then simply look at down the archive at Paul Gordon’s note. He nailed it. The 4-5 descriptors he listed off are IMO dead on. I’ll agree with him also on the medium term comment relative to the aging of this wine, as the olive, sage and acidity, all the old world kind of structure adds some short term aging capacity and a nice prickly and brisk finish. At this stage, this wine is plush and fleshy but aging it…I’d not go more than 2 more years. This is my last one, it drinks fine at this stage of its life and I’d recommend you give it a go. PS–the finish of the wine kind of reminds me of the Cayuse signature: plush and energetic, with that saddle/soy note married over it.
