2006 Cabot Vineyards Syrah Kimberly’s - USA, California, North Coast, Humboldt County (12/19/2009)
Decanted 5 hours, enjoyed over 3. Impressive nose of smoke, tar, pepper, leather, barnyard. Rich, acidic, fresh, clean, robust. Nice fruit, spice, and the ever present bacon. Kept improving in the glass. This has a long and happy life ahead, as do all of us lucky enough to have it in our cellars.

This was the regular Kimberly’s and not the “One Barrel”? I have only had the latter, and it was excellent. Sounds like this one is in the same league.
Brad,
That’s correct. The nose is a dead ringer for Cote Rotie, the only subtle difference is the absence of a floral component.
The Kimberly’s is made in the traditional Cote Rotie fashion with 5-8% Viognier(dependant on the ripeness) co-fermented with the Syrah. The 06 was totally destemmed, but in recent vintages we’re incorperating some whole cluster into the mix.
