- 2006 Bruno Colin Santenay Vieilles Vignes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Santenay (9/24-28/2009)
– Popped and Poured –
– Tasted non-blind over 5 Days –
NOSE: loads of spice (incense) on Day 1, which eventually turns to a softer floral perfume scent by Day 5; clear red fruits – strawberry and raspberry on Day 1; cranberry on Day 5; soft Pinot funk; moderately expressive; nice.
BODY: striking garnet-purple color (think: eggplant) of light to medium-light depth; light to medium-light bodied.
TASTE: acidic and tannic on Day 1 … better integrated by Day 5; flavors of spice and blueberry; light red fruits, too; medium finish (35-45 sec.); touch of cigar wrapper; the 13% alc. is not noticeable; somewhat thin; a bit tart on Day 5. This certainly isn’t mind-blowing … some might even hesitate to call it “good,” but this is a pleasant and simple version of exactly what I’m looking for in a Pinot. I did prefer the ‘05 vintage of this bottling. Drink over short term.
