2006 Bodegas Naia (Viña Sila) Rueda Naiades - Spain, Castilla y León, Rueda (7/16/2009)
Pretty golden color and aromas of a bowl filled with tropical fruit and a hint of jasmine. Flavor starts out with a very tart lemon zest but that mellows as the wine warms and opens up to more of a lemon flavored salt water taffy, banana candy, and a bit of petrol. Don’t serve this wine too cold and perhaps even decant for best results. Well made, but personally, I didn’t love it, especially with the tariff of $30 from a premium Napa Valley grocer. It would have been more acceptable sub $20. (83 pts.)

For my tastes, the benchmark Rueda bottling is from Bodegas Dos Victorias (they have two wineries, one in Toro making great reds - the best in the DO in my opinion) and one in Rueda making whites (also the best in that DO in my opinion!). Their Rueda wines are labeled Jose Pariente and their base wine (not barrel fermented) is, for me, the benchmark for Rueda, and is usually around $15 to boot, though it seems that it’s not being imported as much as it used to be, unfortunately, I can never find it anymore.
Thanks for the info, Josh. I am a relative newbie when it comes to Spanish wines but am particularly interested in their white varietals.
RIP Dos Victorias. Victoria Pariente and Victoria Benavides dissolved their partnership in 2008. Victoria Pariente now runs the Rueda winery, Victoria Benavides the Toro (red wines) winery.
Too bad. I enjoyed the 04 and 05.
I have also enjoyed a number of their lower end bottling which is sub $10. $30 Sounds have for the Naiades.

Victor, do you know if much has changed with the operations of either winery? Do you know what names the wineries will continue under? This perhaps explains why I was unable to find the Jose Pariente Rueda in the 07 / 08 vintages
And who is importing the Naia and Naides into the US now?
Josh:
Not sure why you have had trouble in finding the wine since it appears that both wineries will keep their names and will still be distributed by Grapes of Spain.

Heya Jose,
I just use WS Pro to look every once in a while. I bought the 06 Rueda in the summer of 07, but didn’t see the 07’s last summer and haven’t seen them in the local wine shops I normally see them in, FWIW. Looking again, it looks like the 07 is here now, at least.
