2006 Beresan Winery Syrah - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley (4/5/2011)
Opaque purple. Tasted over two days. The wine, once breathing in glasses was quite consistent.
Day 1- At first, the nose was just a blast of new French oak mixed with dark fruit. I dumped this in a decanter for around an hour. The oaky aromatics blew off, and while the dark fruit certainly made up the bulk of the aromatics, some
savory, meaty components showed up as well. This is a full bodied wine for sure.
It is balanced with some good acidity and more savory complexity to complement the black fruit. Short on finish and tannins.
Day 2- Consistent with day 1 for the most part, but some spice on the nose and some minerality on the finish has added another layer. The length is definitely more pronounced and the acid and tannin are not hiding behind the fruit as much.
Very nice wine- for those heading to Cayuse weekend, check these guys out!
