2006 Arcadian Pinot Noir Jill’s Cuvée - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley (10/25/2009)
Very nice clear red color. Cherry nose with a touch of a tingle from the alcohol. Palate is much more expressive with good ripe fruit, chewy tannins and nice length that improves with airtime and picks up some spicy depth. Stylistically big, this wine reminds me of a Kosta Browne pinot noir and it is quite tasty. My main critique is that I would like a little more from the nose. I do question whether or not it’s worth $60 but regardless of price, the wine is quite enjoyable. (90 pts.)

NOSE: complex and moderately expressive; red berries; rhubarb; hints of chalk and a piney herbs; very nice.
BODY: garnet-violet color of medium-light depth; medium-light bodied.
TASTE: ripe sweet fruit, but with a beautiful underlying herbaceous character; red fruits; floral; hints of oak and flowers; medium to medium+ acidity; no tannin; typical Arcadian style; this is very good; hint of bitter orange peel after a couple hours; alc. not noticeable; complex; very Burg.-like — Volnay, perhaps. Drink now or continue to hold.

I’ve sampled many KB and Arcadian Pinots.
I’ve have found no similarities in them…

– cork pulled approx. one hour before initial taste –
– tasted non-blind –
NOSE: cherry; medium oak; initially moderately expressive, and becoming more open over the course of 2 – 3 hours.
BODY: slightly hazy muddy garnet color of medium-deep depth; {forgot to note weight — couldn’t have been more than medium bodied)
TASTE: first sip is a bit bitter and green; medium-high acidity; 14.4% alc. is a little noticeable; hint of black licorice. Not as impressive tonight as on 6/13/14. Drink or Hold.
2006 Arcadian Pinot Noir Jill’s Cuvée - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley (8/1/2025)
– decanted approx. 45 min. before initial taste –
– tasted non-blind over approx. 2 hrs. in a restaurant setting –
This is in a great spot right now! Lots of primary fruit, but it’s fully relaxed and now developing mature flavors and aromas. Clean/not bretty; medium to medium+ acidity; alc. not noticeable. Seemingly in the front end of its prime drink window. Drink Now and over the next 10 years.
