I dropped off the Araujo list after this vintage, and have always regretted it. At the time, I had more than enough wine, wanted to try new producers, and had a less than positive experience with the winery. In hindsight, wish i would have given up other wineries, as I have really liked the Araujo wines I have drunk.
2006 Araujo Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard- USA, California, Napa Valley (10/27/2014)
This was a very good wine from a vintage that I had not have a lot of success with. Nice color in the glass, and beautiful nose. Bright fruit on the nose…lovely. The tannins are well integrated, and reside nicely in the background. This is a lovely wine, and drinking really well at the moment. (97 pts.)
Thanks for the note. The bottle of 2006 I have is my one and only Araujo and I was planning to hold it until its 10th birthday. Any room for improvement?
I’m a fan of Araujo as well and even helped organize a big vertical tasting in NYC a few years back. I think 2005 was the last year I bought direct from the list. I’m no longer in touch with the current release prices but I have seen great older vintages trade at auction at prices that were below release and seemed very reasonable compared to other “cults”
05 was my last year too. Stopped buying when you could buy on secondary market for less. And I’m not talking like years later. More like the day after the wines shipped.
I have some 01, 03, 04, 05 Syrah if anybody wants at their release prices, which I believe was around $75. If interested in sure we can work a fair deal.
