TN: 2005 Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Clos Windsbuhl (France, Alsace, Hunawihr, Alsace AOC)

Dinner at 11th St Dockside, Port Royal, SC. This wine is drinking oh so young but we really wanted to open one. The nose has tremendous richness which acts to disorient when the wine is tasted and the palate is quite dry. Great depth and purity of fruit on the palate and one gets the sense that there are several layers hiding beneath the surface that will only reveal themselves overthe decades to come. Very long on the finish with a mix of citrus zest and strong minerality. I found this to be a particularly strong match with the sea water from the steamed clams. I’d suggest some decanting if drunk at this point. What a wine! 50+13+14+9+9 = 95++ (95 pts.)

Jeff,
Coincidentally, my wife and I tasted the '05 VT yesterday. An infant, but what a wine!

No '05 Riesling VT made. Was it the Gewurz or the Pinot Gris? Both are stunning to say the least.

You are correct, it was the Pinot Gris. We drank it at the Domaine, with Olivier… Nice here in Alsace. [basic-smile.gif]

Lucky man drinking with the master himself.

I believe that the '05 Windsbuhl PG VT will rival the '94 as best version made to date. Only time will tell.
