TN: 2005 Zind-Humbrecht Gewurz Herrenweg de Turckheim (France, Alsace, Turckheim, Alsace AOC)

  • 2005 Zind-Humbrecht Gewurztraminer Herrenweg de Turckheim - France, Alsace, Turckheim, Alsace AOC (2/15/2010)
The golden hue reveals possible botrytis influence, with a very heady nose of ripe pineapple, rose water, jasmine and a touch of Nivea crème. This would be easy to pick out as a ZH Gewürztraminer, the full frontal assault of the same flavors as described on the nose, with added gravel tones, but there is a restraint here, as the wine conveys a very precise mouth feel. More importantly, no bitterness on the finish which can occasionally distract from an otherwise enjoyable ride. I think the Goldert Cru is my personal favorite for ZH Gewurz, but this is a strong showing for the Herrenweg de T. (92 pts.)
