2005 Turley Zinfandel Ueberroth Vineyard- USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (4/8/2011)
16.0% alcohol. From the great and historic Ueberroth vineyard planted in 1885. A great year for wine lovers, a great year for Paso Robles. A great year for literature. Mark Twain’s “The Adventures of Huckelberry Finn” is published in February.
Medium dark ruby red. Rich, deep, expressive red and black fruit aromas. Concentrated flavors of blackberries, rasberries, smoke and a little funk. Well balanced, lingering aftertaste.
I just had the '04 last night, and while I enjoyed it, there was this sarsaparilla aspect on the nose that was quite intriguing, I would not have referred to it as well balanced. I thought the alcohol to fruit to acid ratio was leaning to far towards the alcohol. I also did not think that this would benefit from any more bottle time, as it seemed quite similar to my tasting ~ 2 years ago.
