2005 Longshadows Sequel Syrah Columbia Valley
This is the “Aussie” contribution to the Longshadows project which if you aren’t familiar combines a famous winemaker with their team in Walla Walla to create specific wines showing Washington fruit with an outsiders touch. The “guest” is John Duval in this case and the wine is Syrah.
Opened last night and the nose yielded nothing. The wine showed a bitter
minerality through the mid and the finish, with hints of blackberry, but very hard to connect with much fruit at all. Day 2 showed a bit more, shed the bitter streak, but only showed muted red and black fruit with virtually no finish.
The wine also lacked acid and tannin which makes me suspect the drinking window of 2012-2020 offered in the Advocate review. Very disappointed for the price.
