2005 Sean Thackrey Petite Sirah Sirius Eaglepoint Ranch - USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County (6/17/2009)
My second bottle of this. This is just an outstanding bottle of wine. Decadent from start to finish, but in balance. Nice fruit(blueberries, raspberries, black berries with floral notes) on the nose(have not given it much air time yet, either.) Just keeps getting better with every second of air. Upon first taste just a burst of fruit with solid tannins, but with balance still. I see this gettng better with age as it just seems to have more behind the scenes. I have had discussions about petite and questions have been asked does it age or just get older. This is one time I am going with it will age and the layers and components will get at an even better level. Beautiful deep purple color. This wine has definitely given me a WOW factor. FM3 I would like this to be the bottle of wine we have when we play Rosebay Gin. I am gong to get some more, for sure.

i have a couple of bottles from the early 90’s sitting around.
I had a bottle of '05 Sirius with George Heretier (Gang of Pour) and a few others a few months ago. Unfortunately it was later on in an evening of many wines, so I didn’t take any notes, but I do recall that the wine really blew me away… it was big, but held it together really well, with plenty of structure, and didn’t come off as big in that over-the-top blowsy way that (IMO) happens all-too-often with CA wines. I haven’t been able to get this one out of my mind, and keep thinking that I need to track down this and some of Thackrey’s other wines for my cellar.

A delish sounding bottle! I have two of the 2001 and, due to the glacial pace these wines (PS) seem to mature & looking at your note, my 2001’s need to be cellared for a minimum of another decade!
Had a really excellent bottle Friday night with a one of Mel’s hard-to-pair veggie stews. Wine killed, though it did show a whiff of heat. winter fare, and most welcome.
As good as the '05 is, the '06 is even more epic to me. Interesting to see what’s going to happen with Eaglepoint Ranch. My old boss now has it listed with Sotheby’s. $6.9M
I’ve not had the 06 but will endeavor to seek it out. That hot summer did fruit some good huh?
Hot but not that hot up here. Everyone that made Petite from EP that year Thackrey, JC Cellars, Jazz, and even my swill hit some home runs.
Your “swill” was pretty damn good, Casey.
