Much thinner than I expected for supposed declassified To-Kalon fruit. Heavy on the oak and the alcohol is very noticeable. Definitely a disappointment, but a decent wine. The remaining bottles will go on my wife’s shelf in her Eurocave and I won’t buy more. (85 pts.)

Yikes!
I just seen these for $24.99
Thanks for saving me money. After the buy freeze is over that is.

I paid $17 and won’t buy more. It is getting a little better with time, but it will never be anything special. I would drink it as a beverage if someone served it to me, but it is below my threshold for true enjoyment, so I wouldn’t open a bottle for anything even vaguely special. Maybe I’ve been spoiled by some really nice wines lately. I consider the Audelssa Summit 2006 an infinitely better wine for a few dollars more (both were purchased via great deals).

Oh well, I always need a wine to have around for the babysitter or other non-winos.

A slight digress, but I often hear people talk about value (not necessarily QPR which is a whole other subject). My opinion is that if a wine is below my threshold for enjoyment, is it even worth $1 to me?

If anyone likes this wine and wants my remaining bottles, I’ll be happy to sell mine off at my cost.

Chris

I had this wine at a store wine-tasting recently and based on that tasting, decided to buy a case. I opened a bottle from that case a few days ago and was surprised by how tight it was. Upon opening, a wall of oak, tannin and acidity pretty much masked the fruit. It took about an hour to begin to open up, but still somewhat tight even after about 2 hours. I would note that the bottle at the wine tasting had been open for some time, so it may have also been tight upon opening.

My conclusion (and hope!) is that this wine is simply not yet ready - and either needs another year or two, or an aggressive decanting.
