TN: 2005 Roar Syrah Rosella's Vineyard

  • 2005 Roar Syrah Rosella’s Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands (12/25/2009)
Funky aromas of bacon fat, beef bouillon, plum skin, leather and fireplace. Rich and full-bodied, with smoky notes of grilled plums, black olives, and pink peppercorns. A chalk and mineral-laden finish. (88 pts.)

Paul, spot on from the bottle I had 6 months ago, I’m not sure if 88pts is a good score from you or just so-so? I had the SLH bottling last week and actually thought it was a bit better probably 90+

I have had six bottles of this wine since release and have enjoyed it every time, with the last bottle in March of this year–time to try another one but I have yet to open my 2007s so probably one of those first.

Joe, from my experience, Paul is a hard scorer and he’s consistent with that premise. I actually like this, as it means if I see a large score from him, it indicates it struck him. An 88 is not bad from him at all.

Paul, do you love when I speak for you? Almost like we got married. neener .

I’ve has this wine twice in the past six months. Both times, both my wife and myself, thought this wine needed time in the bottle. It was very slow opening up. I’m not sure how to rate this one, but young is my first impression.

Joe, I can see how one might rate this wine 90 points. According to my scale, 88 points is very good (in the same way that a B+ is also very good). I am usually very content drinking any wine rated 87 points and higher.

Frank, does that mean I get custody of half of your cellar? [wink.gif]

Paul, since I have one sole bottle of Billecart rose in my cellar, you can have the 1/2 that does not include it. [rofl.gif]
