TN: 2005 Realm Cellars The Tempest (USA, California, Napa Valley)

Pretty much the definition of Napa cab/merlot based wines these days. Huge, black cherry syrup, vanilla, chocolate milkshake. Velvety, coating, juicy palate with more black cherry and plum fruit and noticeable, though well integrated new oak. Furry, long finish. Giant crowd pleaser, probably the table’s wine of the night, but I personally find it a bit over the top. I do appreciate the fun factor, though. (91 pts.)

There was a fairly substantial portion of Petit Verdot in this wine [which was kinda Wendell & Juan’s signature, back in the day].

Yes, 18 pct. according to the description. But this wine is cab/merlot driven. I certainly did not pick up an PV varietal notes ( i usually get pine and black fruit from Napa PV) or structure mid palate.

I had this as well for xmas. I felt that it was over the top as well. And a lot of heat on the finish which was a distraction to me… (BTW I’m sensitive to high alcohol)
