2005 Radio-Coteau Syrah Cherry Camp - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (1/13/2010)
Pulled this from the wine locker b/c for some reason it was leaking - I know it wasn’t a heat issue so perhaps a faulty cork . Traci wanted a glass of wine so I popped and poured this for her and had a glass myself.
First the color is dark with purple at the rim. The nose is savory with plum, blackberry, iron, white pepper and a hint of spice. The palate is full without being heavy showing more plum, lots of iron, a hint of beef blood and white pepper with some coffee and a little bit of sweet spice (almost a cinnamon note). Long chewy almost slightly chalky/limestone finish. No real tannins noticeable and while very drinkable I still think this needs another year or two to really come together. The palate wasn’t quite as smooth as I thought it should be. Still a terrific Syrah. 92-93/100 (93 pts.)
