Made some spicy chicken soup tonight so thought old syrah would be a fun pairing. It did not disappoint. This was a beautiful bottle of syrah. At 20 years old, I think it’s drinking near peak but I wouldn’t be surprised if it continued to develop positively as it is still quite structured.
Note: Brilliant deep ruby color still with some purple hues. Does not look 20 years old! Expressive nose - dried cherry, chocolate, blueberry, mint, anise, game, black currant, fig, dried brush. Dry. Med+ acid. Med+ tannin. Med alcohol. Med+ body. Long finish.
I scored this for I think maybe $35-40ish from Saison Cellar and at that price I think it’s an absolute steal! Anytime I see old Qupé wines I try to snag them. Lindquist did great work.
