TN: 2005 Nicolas Potel Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Hauts Jarrons

  • 2005 Nicolas Potel Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Hauts Jarrons - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru (12/13/2009)
Very primary on opening. Lots of darkish fruit, almost syrah like. However, that is really short-lived; as the wine gets some air, it stiffens a bit. Nose becomes pleasantly smoky, with dark cherry notes. Palate slowly reveals tea notes and crunchy red fruit, but it clamps down pretty hard on the back side. Wrapped up still. Nice, but I will revisit again in a couple of years.

Nice note, Dennis. Love the Potels, especially from 2005. Solid wines that deliver good value.

What was Potel’s last vintage before he got kicked out?

Thanks, Tom. I like what I’ve had so far, even the village stuff.
This Jarrons, while young, provided some goodies for me who in the midst of my transition out of a strict new-world diet. It’s a fun ride

Berry – I think it’s 2007 or 2008 that the Potel changes over? I need to double check …

The 05s are shut down. Revisit in ten years.

Thanks for the note. Looks like you enjoyed this a little more than me. I hope time is positive to this but even at that price I thought there were better 05s.
