TN: 2005 Neal Cabernet, 2007 Carlisle RRV Syrah

[*]2007 Carlisle Syrah Russian River Valley - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (1/9/2010)
I really don’t know what to make of this wine. The nose was muted, so was the palate. I have a feeling it may have been corked but I really can’t be too sure. My brother-in-law sorta felt the same way, he still killed the bottle, because he’s a drunkard (and that’s NOT a bad thing…) I have two more and will open one soon just to see the comparison. Dissapointing as we wanted to pair this with the Flannery Hanger steak…[/list]

Since the Carlisle didn’t work out we decided to pop this. Gave it about 30 minutes before drinking. Wow, this was wonderful. Great nose of Black currant, dark fruit, a little bit of unsmoked cigar and some underlying chocolate. Medium-Full bodied with the dark fruits really just covering the palate leading to a med+ finish with a great balance of acid and sweet but fine (not harsh) tannins. Could not have picked a better pairing for the fantastic Flanner Hanger Steak (with Tex’s recipe.) For about $45 bucks this is always a fantastic well priced Cab. Glad I have a few more…

Yoni,
I’ve had similar experiences with the 2 Carlisle 2007 RRV Syrahs I’ve opened (I have 4 left). I like them but they were muted to me in both taste and smell. So I don’t think it was a bad bottle but hopefully just needs a bunch more time…even though I’m not that good with aging I’m going to give the remaining bottles a few more years.
