TN: 2005 Mollydooker Shiraz Carnival of Love (Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale)

  • 2005 Mollydooker Shiraz Carnival of Love - Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale (9/3/2009)
Had the pleasure of tasting this wine a second time (blind) at a lunch offline. We tasted 13 wines, and this was #1 of the tasting (my #3). FYI, this group of tasters is a group ‘ITK’ (in the know). Ah yes, more Mollydooker controversy. My notes this time… crowd pleaser, but not for me. I thought the MD was sweet. Makes me wonder how blind tastings affect notes and scores.

My June notes from CT… 6/26/2009 rated 94 points: Nice nose. Fruit pie from the over (not my words). Stunning, Amazing, are some of the quotes at dinner. All Shiraz. fruit. Oak. Don’t understand all the fuss about this wine. Big bold and intense Ozzie wine.

Dan, I have had a REALLY bad bottle that was near undrinkable (year and a half ago) and one within the past two months that was night & day different. Very tame and lush. I think there might some serious bottle variation on this wine.

Dan, I agree with your assessment and had it as my #1 too. It’s crazy because I’ve had this wine 2 before and it was absolutely undrinkable, almost as bad as the bottles of Sierra Carche we had today…almost. Nice meeting you today.
