TN: 2005 Melville Syrah Estate Donna's Santa Rita Hills

Served blind, I would guess this as a Saxum. Not what I expected from what is arguably a cool climate vineyard via Melville’s SRH estate. Would think more pepper but I don’t find it, instead more Paso-like. Delicious and worth pursuing or drinking if you have one around.

Smoky and fruit centric. I have had the bottle open only about 90 mins but it hits the spot. Listed booze on bottle @ 15.8%, perhaps notable in some of the aromatic, that also features some funk, olive, big white flower and sweet leather. Mix all of that up, it’s quite a bouquet. Palate is pretty fruit driven, reminding me squarely of a Saxum with the fruit profile, almost a concentrated flamboyant note. It works for me, all in, as it’s a cool fall night, it’s after dinner and the wine kind of warms and comforts. I don’t think I would age this wine any further, as the fruit and weight is all in the right place, granted in a CA new world style. Drink now.

Got 2 of these in the cellar, and sounds like the time is right to bring one out. Cheers Frank. [cheers.gif]

Mike, hit it. Knowing your palate and what you buy, go pull one of these and drink it, come back and tell me what you think. I would be keen on knowing your take.
