2005 McCrea Syrah Ciel du Cheval Vineyard - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Red Mountain (12/7/2009)
With dinner at GlassHalfull. Very, dark, deep purple. On opening the alcohol sticks out a bit. Very soon the wine opens up with tons of mineral, a bit of meat, ripe, full fruit. In the mouth there is significant tannin and great structure. Beautiful blackberry fruit with spice, a touch of mint. Over the course of the meal the nose opens up even more with more meat and bacon fat touches but the minerality stays forefront. The fruit just fills the mouth, explosive with a long and spicy finish. I’d love to try this in 3-5 years. (92 pts.)
