TN: 2005 Maybach Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Materium

There’s no shortage of notes on this wine, but thought I’d chime in. It doesn’t suck. By happenstance, I had this a year to the day since my last bottle. Despite the minor flaws, it was actually a bit better than the last. Not sure how it will age though given the appearance of VA (at least in this bottle). I’m down to a single bottle, so I guess it’s time to get my first peek at the '06.

Remarkably rich and pure. Concentrated, dark, blackberry liquor finishes long and sweet. Incredibly soft texture, loaded with silky talc like tannin. Chalky, limestone flavors repeat on the finish. A bit warm, but well concealed by layers of rich fruit. There’s a hint of both VA and TCA limiting this bottle’s potential, but still, it’s incredibly pure and easy to drink. Decidedly Oakville in its dark, cassis richness, but the aroma and texture allude to SLD. Reminds me of a baby HSS. (92 pts.)
