2005 Lucien Crochet Sancerre Rouge La Croix du Roy - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre Rouge (8/8/2009)
Bought on reading article on red Sancerre by Jim Budd in September issue of Decanter in which Jim rated this as 18/20
Decanted one hour.
Restrained nose of fruit and stones. Palate shows bright, high toned acidity with good balance of fruit and tannins. Quite an elegant and stylish wine but as this is the first Sancerre red I have ever tried,I really have no reference point. It is however a very nice easy drinking wine with no great complexity but I am sure it will give affordable drinking pleasure for a few years.I hope so as I bought a case from J and B at a price of roughly £14 a bottle. Unfair to label it the poor mans burgundy as I think this could confuse a few Burghounds in a Blind tasting. So look out for this to make an appearance in next years Annual Blind Challenge. Very good abv 13% (88 pts.)
