TN: 2005 Lucien Crochet Sancerre Rouge La Croix du Roy

Decanted one hour.
Restrained nose of fruit and stones. Palate shows bright, high toned acidity with good balance of fruit and tannins. Quite an elegant and stylish wine but as this is the first Sancerre red I have ever tried,I really have no reference point. It is however a very nice easy drinking wine with no great complexity but I am sure it will give affordable drinking pleasure for a few years.I hope so as I bought a case from J and B at a price of roughly £14 a bottle. Unfair to label it the poor mans burgundy as I think this could confuse a few Burghounds in a Blind tasting. So look out for this to make an appearance in next years Annual Blind Challenge. Very good abv 13% (88 pts.)

Thanks for the note Keith. I usually make jokes about Sancerre Rouge since everyone I have ever tried was too austere and lacking in fruit expression for me to enjoy though that is in relatively few experiences.

I would be interested to know how the wine evolved in the glass?

Hi Bob,

n hour or so later.

Just finished the bottle and the wine did improve in the glass. Needed to be cooled down to about 14C and was delightful sipping it whilst munching in the garden on a salad and organic home made veggie sausages
