Decanted two hours, enjoyed over 2. Nose of black olives, sun-dried tomato and ripe black fruits. Smooth, rich mouthfeel. Cracked black pepper dominates the midpalate and finish. Enjoyable bottle of wine.

Brian, your note sounds a bit restrained. Did this bottle not live up to your expectations?

John,

Not at all, it was a very nice wine. Late night note after a long day. Wasn’t feeling loquacious.

Last time I had it we only decanted for about 30 minutes. Next one will for sure see 2+ hours.

had this a month or so ago, I would let them sleep. Didn’t wow me like the 2004 did, but I think that was just more evolved.

Thanks for checking in on this one. I only have a couple bottles and would like it to make sure it shows as best it can. Sounds like the 2+ hour decant is the way to go. Thanks!

I’ve always loved the wine and stashed one lonely bottle for future.
The '06 ships next week WOO HOO ! I can’t wait

2006 Lillian Syrah is in the house. We will be tasting & posting notes soon

popping one tonight with ny strips and Frenched lamb chops

Going for a 2hr+ decant… will report back

Did you try this wine yet Carrie? Curious how it compares to that lovely 2005!

Yes sireee, we did. Another great effort by Maggie. It is pretty scrumptious but Nick you probably won’t like it neener [wink.gif]

Tyler, at least 2 hours

Any one on the east coast get Lillian yet? I am SOL so far. I got a 6er coming.

I called last week to change a few details on my order, and Maggie said (my order anyway) would likely ship Nov 30, arrive Dec. 2nd, something like that…

Did I miss my mailer for '06’s? Yikes, better call or e-mail Maggie tomorrow! Still haven’t popped anything other than an '04 yet. The ‘05’ are still sleeping. Out of 750’s of the '04, but have 2 mags left. One of these just might be perfect for the said BBQ that has been talked about in the Offline Forum! -mJ

I watched Maggie and crew putting the 09 Lillian into barrels from the fermenters last week. She said the 06’s would be going out at the end of the month.

Down for 6 of them, will be adding to my vertical starting of Antica Terra.

Cheers!!!

It would have been a 93-94+ if the palate didnt clamp down so hard towards the end. This note was written at the 4 hour mark. It seemed nice after an hour of air but I decided to keep going. I think in the end I still would rather drink this with 30 minutes of air rather than an extended decant.

Decanted about 4 hours before consuming. Nice blood red color with a purple tinge. Nose is explosive with tons of fragrant perfume like dark red fruits, anise, sweet baking spices and spicy oak. Nose unfolds to reveal sweet raspberries, boysenberry fruit, hints of blueberry and flowers. Touches of smoked meats and honey ham and bacon drippings present as well. On the palate is a good dose of toasty oak, sweet fruits and a firm tannin structure. Palate has the smallest touch of heat on the finish and is a touch out of balance. This bottle is lacking the smooth polished tannins that the last bottle had. Seems an extended decant closed this wine down a bit. There is real promise here but needs a bit more time. (91 pts.)
