2005 Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-Pape - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (7/27/2009)
Opened and consumed over the course of 2 or 3 hours without decanting. Lovely nose of black cherry, a bit of white pepper and some brambly underbrush. Big and full bodied with great complexity. Oak and tannins dominated the fruit initially but with some air, everything started to come together quite well with nice balance. Love the long finish. Great young CdP today and there is so much potential here for an amazing wine down the road. Well deserved of it’s WS ranking. (#3 in 2007) (94 pts.)
