TN: 2005 Larkmead Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon

  • 2005 Larkmead Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Napa Valley (12/26/2009)
Open for about 3 hours. Color is immensely dark, almost black with a red tinge on the edge. Nose possesses tons of cool blue and black fruits. Luscious Blueberries and boysenberries all rolled with hints of blackberry and sweet licorice. Underneath the fruit there is hints of mocha, dark chocolate, lead pencil and graphite. Palate is very smooth with polished tannins. A silky texture to this wine which delivers a touch of smoke, charcoal, espresso, baking chocolate and toasty oak. Palate is really nice with creme de cassis, kirsch and a hint of vanilla. Nice wine with tons of stuffing, pretty primary at this point but should continue to develop. (92 pts.)

Before I had my son and I frequently traveled to Napa, I would regularly stop with my assorted guests and friends at little Larkmead up near Calistoga for a tasting after going to all the big boys. They have some great vineyards and never disappointed.

Planning on stopping by when I am out there in January and looking forward to it. This is well worth the $38 spent at the NH state store on closeout.
