2005 Kenwood Pinot Noir- USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (8/8/2009)
– popped and poured –
– tasted non-blind over 1 hour –
NOSE: cola; tart ras-cherry; not bad, but nothing mind-blowing either.
BODY: color is garnet with slight burnt sienna throughout; color is of medium-light depth; medium bodied.
TASTE: pretty straightforward Pinot – solid, but boring, too: the cola, tart red fruits, and touch of spice make this distinctively RRV, to me; 14.5% alc.; I don’t get the impression this will improve with time, so I’d say drink now; I wouldn’t pay more than $20 for this. Gut impression score: 84-85.
I had the 07 a week or so ago and it matches your description but might be a tad better. I wouldn’t call it compelling but I wouldn’t go boring either. A fairly nice, not overblown, true to the grape wine. Drink over the next couple of years. Fortunately $12 and a good buy at that tariff and I may go buy a handful. I’d go 87ish.
