TN: 2005 Joseph Drouhin Charmes-Chambertin

  • 2005 Joseph Drouhin Charmes-Chambertin - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru (12/28/2012)
I had a great 2002 Drouhin Griottes pre Xmas that was a highlight of serious evening of drinking wine, and having seen some recent positive notes on Drouhin, and having bought up large on Drouhin 05’s, thought I would take a look at this.
BH rated this 94 in his last tasting, a big score for a Charmes, I remember the other GC’s being equal or better from the release tastings…
Well BH got it right, this is a beauty nothing obvious and lots of depth and length with a forever finish. The flavours are red fruited but are cut by an immediate structural impact that though noticeable belies what you would expect of 05. This is impressive wine. (94 pts.)

Nice note, thanks Mike.

Good to see an '05 drinking reasonably well now. They won’t all need 20+ years…

Paul, though it probably will be better in 20+ years.
