TN: 2005 J. Rochioli Pinot Noir Estate Russian River Valley (Day 2 update)

  • 2005 J. Rochioli Pinot Noir Estate Russian River Valley - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (6/8/2009)
Popped this one to have while watching Revolutionary Road. Traci is off to some meeting at the Delta Gamma house so I am bach’ing it this evening not that anyone cares so on to what matters…the tasting note.

Nose shows plenty of baking spice, cherries, a little vanilla, and some earth. The palate is pretty full bodied with more red cherry/cranberry fruit, plum skin, baking spice and a little vanilla on the back end. It’s had some acid added to it which results in just a little bit of astringency on the palate to add to a medium length finish. Very tasty wine that should pair well with food but can also be had on its own. Hopefully the acidity continues to integrate. If it does it could garner another point or two from me. (90 pts.)

Day 2 - nose is mostly wet concrete (which I associate with tartaric acid addition)…but the palate is pretty loaded with rich dark cherry/blackberry fruit, baking spice, a slight underbrush note and more wet concrete. Finish is medium in length…I am really liking this wine. Probably still “just” 90pts. It’s an outstanding wine but just barely.

We have 1 or 2 left and I will sit on them for another 2 years.
