TN: 2005 Hope and Grace cab...wondered if I'd still love it

I had this during my last Napa trip in September and I felt this was the best bang for the buck of the whole trip. So I’m finally getting around to opening another bottle to see if I really like it that much or if I was just wasted…the answers are yes and yes
Fairly dark and opaque. This wine can be smelled five feet away, literally. A huge nose of crushed blackberries, sweet coffee, wild flowers and a little bit of charred meat. The palate has immediately apparent acid. The fruit is brighter than in the nose. Slightly underripe blueberries and some raspberry flavors. A bit of coffee also on the palate. It is of medium weight and very clean, probably because of the acidity. Some tannins appear but soft and integrated. I think the only thing that is off balance some is the acidity. Sometimes it seems a bit tart. I do think this wine has aging chops. Cant wait to see what it does with some time. I like a little more oak, there is a tad of vanilla on the nose but otherwise the oak is barely noticeable.

That sounds like a great nose, and I LOVE wines that you can smell from some distance away.

Just tasted this wine over the weekend, in Yountville, and my wife made the same comment about the nose being apparent from well above the glass. GREAT wine !!! Also liked their '06 Chard and '05 RRV Pinot. This is a good find, especially for a ‘touristy’ tasting room… a few doors up from Bouchon.

I’ve always found the Hope & Grace cabs to be a touch green (even the Lewelling Vineyard which is a feat!). Glad to see no mention, maybe it is just me. (Although Charles admits to being a numbers guy and picks pretty early by Napa standards)
