TN: 2005 Herve Souhaut Syrah (France, Rhône, Ardèche, Vin de Pays de l'Ardèche)

My last bottle, alas.

Yummy. Syrah, distinctive as such but with such a light touch. A lovely range of notes from wild celery/garrigue-y to sweet/tart fruit. Light in structure, but persistent. Very nice.

I drank thru a case of these after trying one at a tasting.
I thought the wine showed a lot of bottle variation. some very good some not as good.

Odd coincidence, I tasted my first Souhaut wine last night - an 05 Rhone Gamay.

It was terrific, with baking spices on the nose and a great combination of fruit, structure and mouthfeel as a partner to crispy duck.
I’m going back for more.

The only drawback to this bottle was the composite cork, which will discourage me from cellaring this even short term.
