TN: 2005 Hangtime Cellars Pinot Noir (France, Burgundy) - Trader Joe's

  • 2005 Hangtime Cellars Pinot Noir - France, Burgundy (7/15/2009)
Plastic cork. Barely any nose to speak of even after a couple days open. Straight, linear red wine that is richer than I expected. Couldn’t identify it as Pinot but couldn’t say it wasn’t either. Shows some balancing acids but not strongly. It’s just red wine. Is it a value for $3? Hard to say. I’m not buying anymore since there was nothing to make me want more. But there is certainly nothing flawed about this wine or that stands out as being a big negative either.

This one goes out to Bob Wood. Prompted by Jason Hagen I tried this Trader Joe’s ‘bargain’.

Don’t feel bad Cris, I’ve had equal Burgundy success at 40 times that price.

I bought a bottle, though I think it was the '06. Horrible stuff. So poorly made, it was undrinkable.

I see wine priced at $3 I think the wine is going to be outrageously gross. There, I have perjured myself. I can’t be a critic.

That was my expectation. It wasn’t. But there was nothing that about it that made you want more of it either. Kind of strange that way.

Actually not strange at all. On the spectrum of wine quality, there’s still a vast stretch between DNPIM (Do Not Put In Mouth) and Yum…

I know what you mean and maybe I wasn’t descriptive enough. Usually even if tehre is a wine in the middle I can point to something negative or positive. This was just red wine.

So use it for cooking wine. At the price, how can it be beaten?
