2005 Glaetzer Shiraz Amon-Ra Barossa Valley - Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley (2/15/2010)
Opened this to confirm my membership in the “anti flavor wine elite”. What I did realize is a few years have treated this well and was quite surprised with the acidity and overall size. The fruit is somewhat sweet, but definitely not over the top, initially there is a hint of oak that seems to add some structure, but that does fade with time and your left with some nice restrained red fruit and not much else. In the end a little too one dimensional for my taste, but can see how others that enjoy the style like this.

Hello Joe, I think this is great wine (I think I’m not as anti-flavor elitist as most here
- I like my wines big). But best in almost all Glaetzers I have drank is that they are not boring fruit bomb though big wines, because they have much acid and tannin. I think for me this style is best; I don’t like so much the Mollydooker style with couf medicine stink and sirap tastes. Glaetzer I think is big eleganse.
A truly outstanding wine IMHO. Have had three of them and all were very good and not the JSM surprise.
I think Glaetzer’s 2005 Amon-Ra is still somewhat of a baby, needing 4-5 more years to come together and bloom. I had the 05 when it was released and I agree-it came off kind of numb and unidimensional, but certainly had the ‘goods’ to develop considerably over time.
