TN: 2005 Frédéric Magnien Côte de Nuits Villages Coeur de Roches

Even though this hails from Cote de Nuits, it comes off tasting like a Pommard.

Solid showing, with pine needles, earth and autumnal scents - also an ore-y element. Fruit and minerality both well-balanced, this is still open for drinking, though a touch firm on the back end.

I’ve been a fan of F. Magnien for quite a while but for some reason I can’t seem to jump on board with the other Magnien (Michael?? I think it’s his father or something.)

Rob - yeah I think Michel actually owns vineyards where Freddy is a negociant (I could be totally wrong or have it backwards).

I think, at the right price, Freddy makes some nice wines. I think this was $18 from PC.

Have you tried any of “Freddy’s” Grand Cru offerings? I’ve been curious to know what they are like.

Only 1ers - they were rock solid for the price, about half a “sexier” name.

Had the 07 Echezeaux and Bonnes-Mares the other day at a tasting, thought both were excellent. I don’t buy wine that expensive however and have a hard time saying if they are worth $200 and 250 respectively.

Wow - those prices are way out of line!

I’ve seen the 05 Ech around here for $100, and MA isnt known for fair wine pricing.

The 06 Echezeaux is $99 around here.

Thanks for this, gonna have to look into it…
If there is any state that could rival MA it would be TX on high prices though…

Had the 05 F. Magnien Chambolle-Musigny ‘Les Baudes’ last night. Great stuff. (note is in another thread here somewhere)
