2005 Eno Wines Syrah S05 Las Madres Vineyard- USA, California, Napa Valley, Carneros (8/27/2009)
Consumed with baked chicken meatballs with peperonata. This is in a terrific place with a couple hours of air. The nose is rich with bacon, creosote and mesquite. Almost Aussie Shiraz in weight without the menthol/euculyptus. The palate is dense but texturally very smooth with more purple fruit, a little creosote and citrus along with a slight underbrush note. Medium length finish.
Disclaimer: Sasha and Kiara are good friends and we regularly have dinner with them. (92 pts.)
Yup, mine too, Ken.
Last March, I did a visit w/ John & Jean Painter at LasMadres. It’s a beautiful site w/ two different blocks (named after their Mothers as I recall.
Just a short distance where the Napa Hwy takes off the hwy there head over to the short way into the town of Sonoma, off BurndaleRd.
Probably about 4-5 miles W/NW of LeeHudson’s famed Syrah vnyd. The LasMadres Syrahs have much the same cold-climate cracked black
pepper character that you find in Hudson. I particularly like the LasMadres Syrah that BryanKane makes under his VIE label.
I think it’s probably safe to say that LasMadres (and Hudson) is one of Calif’s great Syrah vnyds, based on the data points I’ve taken (about 20).

Yeah, we were in different departments there, but “met” while testing a new product where a wine discussion broke out. And yeah, that fucking hair is pretty sweet.
