2005 Echeverria Cabernet Sauvignon Limited Edition - Chile, Central Valley (11/24/2009)
Last night at GlassHalfull with a rich truffle and wild mushroom baked pasta and then delicious rare venison with a pomegranate sauce. (The popping pomegranate seeds with the venison was quite fun!)
85% CS, 10% Syrah, 5% Carmenere, 14.5% alcohol. Dark red-purple. Medium to full bodied with moderate tannins. A fair chunk of reasonably well integrated oak with some really nice fruit. I appreciate when the back label of a wine actually describes what’s in the bottle. In this case they hit it: “Juicy fruits like cherries, blackberries and plums are highlighted by notes of black pepper and spices. A dash of menthol and dark chocolate.” I couldn’t have said it better so I won’t. (Laziness has nothing to do with it, oh no, no way.) Pretty nice wine with a bit of an upside. I’ll re-taste tonight but I’m thinking it is a good (not screaming) value at $25 in a new world mold.
