TN: 2005 Domaine Parent Pommard 1er Cru Les Épenots

  • 2005 Domaine Parent Pommard 1er Cru Les Épenots - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru (3/4/2012)
Popped and poured. Darker ruby color. Fresh nose of cranberry, anise, ocean air, cherry pits. Surprisingly accessible on the palate with exuberant red raspberry fruit, stones, brambles and lots of minerals amply displayed. Formidable but ultimately sweet tannins, almost balanced by pangs of primary fruit and bracing acidity. Long finish of grippy red fruit, tartness, and iron filings. Nice drink at this very early stage, with all the elements needed to age well. (91 pts.)

Wow. I’ll still open 2005’s from time to time, but I wouldn’t have the balls to pop a Pommard at this level. Bully on you, Doug.

Lew,

I confess it was a moment of frustration (1990 Lafon Volany Chenes nastily corked) and it actually turned out okay. Dumb luck rather than planning…

Cheers,
Doug
