TN: 2005 Domaine Georg Rafael Cabernet Sauvignon

  • 2005 Domaine Georg Rafael Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Napa Valley, Mt. Veeder (3/10/2012)
Popped, decanted and poured. The nose on the first pour was subtle with fragrant and balanced dark fruits. First taste was balanced and consistent with the dark fruit nose. Thus far a nice wine fir for any daily drinker and a solid QPR. An hour into the decant we see the nose gain complexity with a chalky layer mixing with the solid fruit base. Not overly fragrant but very pleasant. An interesting mouthfeel is developing with a minerality mixing with the sharpening currants and blackberry fruits. Interestingly the alcohol didn’t reveal itself until now and at 14.5% the fruit-forward reveal makes more sense. This is a wine that should be served with food as the flavors greatly balance the medium-rare petite filet I am eating with it. The food also helps balance the alcohol of which I am growing less and less a fan of. Overall, a fine wine, excellent dinner companion and fantastic QPR. (88 pts.)

great note. I have a few still. Need to check in one one soon.

This was a Mike Pobega “special” and I’m happy to have a few floating around thanks to your generosity.

Cheers!
