2005 Copain Syrah McDowell Valley - USA, California, North Coast, McDowell Valley (10/23/2013)
Bought from the winery on the original offer. Decanted and then followed for two hours in a Zalto glass. Color was dark red with just a tiny hint of bricking in the color generally. Very very smooth. Better after two hours. could probably use even more air. Red fruit, spice. great balance. no sweetness. Just beginning to develop tertiary flavors but not yet at its peak. Glad to have more. Atta boy Jets Fan. My 2005s are about gone, aside from a James Berry and Garys’. Time to drink both of these up. Been a while since I had a McDowelll–old school there.
Kyle Field Frankie? Are you an Aggie fan? ![wow [wow.gif]](/uploads/db3686/original/2X/7/7d450e9830889c8943b674446a21b7254cad657e.gif)
I was in College Station last week on business and took that shot. I thought I’d blow up the square for a few days with it. Time for something new soon, MD.
I waffled between the James Berry and the McDowell and decided to save the James Berry for a horizontal with the Saxum and Carlisle James Berry wines. Not all the same blend, but still interesting.
The Copain was aging very well. Calmed down a bit without a loss of flavor. I think it is still on the upside of the curve.
Haven’t had good luck with this one. Two that were corked. Got one left. Guess I can continue to be reluctant a bit longer.
