TN: 2005 Copain Les Copains James Berry Vineyard

  • 2005 Copain Les Copains James Berry Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (10/6/2010)
Rustic, somewhat chewy and full of dark fruit flavors. Mostly black cherry, blackberry and some forest dirt. Finishes with moderately sweet tannins and some vanilla. Doesn’t have the depth of the James Berry fruit but areal solid wine. (89 pts.)

I have a few bottles of this and am curious what you mean by “Doesn’t have the depth of the James Berry fruit”. It is James Berry fruit. Are you comparing it to some other winery’s blend from James Berry fruit? Do you think it will add depth with more time? TIA for your thoughts.

To clarify, doesn’t have the same depth as the Saxum James Berry fruit. Still great, just lighter in mouthfeel and finish.

Thanks, Rich. I have to plead ignorance because I have not purchased Saxum since the 2001 vintage (Bone Rock Syrah IIRC). I didn’t realize that Justin made a blend, but it certainly makes sense that he does.
