2005 Château La Vieille Cure- France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Fronsac (9/11/2013)
Filled with acidity - not as fleshy as you’d expect from an '05, but not suffering from a lack of it, either. Very dark red fruit profile, faintest hint of graphite on the nose, nice weight while staying bright in overall profile, long finish. Tremendous wine overall for the money, as always.
I still have the 3 bottles that I purchased in June 2009 from that guy in Pound Ridge NY. Funny thing is I can’t remember his name. He posted on Parker, and may have posted here?? I paid $20 per. Based on the notes on CT, it looks like this wine is improving.
Thanks for checking in on the '05 LVC. I have quite a bit of this, but not sure I’ve popped one since release. Sounds like i should. Bought '09 as well but have not yet grabbed any '10. Anyone try it yet?
Good news, I went silly long on this as futures ($21/each) and the lone bottle I tried on release was tough as nails.
But I concur, this is always good value, I’ve enjoyed every vintage from 2003 to 2009 (haven’t tried the 07 or 08, but the 09 was terrific in a super sexy, plush 09 sort of way).
I am waiting to see a good price on 2010 as well. I like 2009 and think it should do well a few years out. Still have five of my six 2005s, so might check in soon. A 2007 recently showed nicely but no more upside on that vintage I think.
Well, I withheld one key point of this tasting note on purpose, expecting one of the crew (likely one whose name begins with Jeb and ends with Singleton) to ask whether or not I received permission to open this wine, but it did not happen for some incredible reason.
The good news, for me, is that Jen not only had some, she freakin’ enjoyed it!! There’s hope for me, yet! Baby steps…baby steps…
Todd, I like to try to keep my material fresh, and the permission joke had its moment, so I’m working on new material. Besides, I figure if you’re posting a TN, then you cleeeearly already received permission. Good wine too!
Went long on this wine buying 10 cases. Showing 73 bottles left. Consistently good. Am interested to see if this gets better and develops more complexity. Still somewhat primary and delicious. Kudos to Max for offering so much of this at such a good price!
Geez, 10 cases of a single wine?!?? Wow. I consider 2 cases an excessive buy, wondering how I’ll ever get through them (variety being the spice of life, I guess).
And impressive that you already had nearly 50 bottles of this stuff! OMG, I think the most I’ve ever had of a single bottling might be 10-12 bottles of the 1989 Meyney… spread out over 18 years or so of drinking.
Pat - not that impressive really. If it was 96 Krug maybe? Max gave a sweet deal for 10 cases (might have been just under $20 bottle) and I knew this wine well and believed it to be one of the QPR’s of the vintage. I have a big cellar and do a lot of entertaining. So nice to serve this wine at parties.
