TN: 2005 Château La Vieille Cure (France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Fronsac)

  • 2005 Château La Vieille Cure - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Fronsac (7/13/2009)
Opened and decanted for 3 hours and drunk over 3 nights. Dark red-purple. Big nose of tar and Med spices. Quite tannic and concentrated. The wine opened some over 3 nights but never softened. The tar follows through on the palate along with dark cherry, anise, oregano maybe, some wood and big tannins. Pretty ripe and rich but the wine is very traditional Bordeaux in its dusty, earthy notes.

Reasonably complex now but will improve. When I was 30 I’d have enjoyed this more but now I’m less accepting of the tannin level. Assuming that the tannins calm down this should merit a higher score in 3-5 years and hold for 10 or more. I’m happy to have it but I won’t open another bottle for a while. (88 pts.)

[Side note/confession: I’ve really only tasted over 2 nights but I will taste it tonight as well. I just joined CT and just couldn’t wait to try out the “export to berserkerville” feature. So sue me.]
