TN: 2005 Château La Vieille Cure (France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Fronsac)

Checking in on a solid QPR. From the Eurocave and into the decanter. Wine needs to warm up a bit but the nose is already displaying deep blackberry, currents and spice. With some time the blackberries mature with a dusting of subtle cedar chips lacing the aromas. First tastes 45 minutes in are vibrant cherry plums with a slight charcoal astringency mid-palate followed by an inky dark fruit finish. Bold but not overpowering. Plenty of life in this quality wine. A great wine on its own but probably a better wine to pair with lamb or duck. Bordeaux drinkers should celebrate this QPR while Napa Cab drinkers (looking at you Pobega!) will shudder at the soft complexities that shine through this dark black cherry gem. (92 pts.)

I haven’t tried this in a while, but still have 4 bottles in the cellar. Looks like one that is fun to drink while still relatively young. Might keep one or two for the long term just in case

I bought a bunch of the '05’s and '06’s of this - really appreciate the look in, sounds like I need to crack one and grill a steak.

Thanks for checking in on this as I had forgotten about it. Have a guy’s trip coming up where I plan the wine, and in that crowd, a Bdx that will appeal to Cali drinkings is perfect!

Dude, you’re killing me.

I have my own ‘cure’ —DMN! (Drink More Napa)

Thanks for the encouraging note. When I tried this one a year (or more) ago, I thought it was still showing a lot of wood. Sounds like it’s coming together nicely.
