    It took 3 hours of air to get this wine to budge past its funky nose of green pepper, earth, and animal shit. But when it did, some beautiful fruit, floral notes, and this really terrific sweet tobacco note appeared. The wine has lovely texture, is medium bodied, and has very good balance. Good acidity and underlying tannins suggest to me that this wine will improve with age. So glad I didn’t pop, pour and give up on it. Wait on this one or decant for at least 3 hours!

Thanks Kim. I had a 2001 of this which was filthy with Brett, and a 2006 which was quite delicious, but grudgingly tannic. Nice to see another note on another vintage.

Thanks for your note on this Kim. I have a few I’m sitting on and will continue to be patient with. Hope the bret bomb doesn’t strike. My epiphany with Joguet was a 2000 Cuvee Terrior drunk in 2005. Beautiful wine.

I really liked the bottle of this I had–and stocked up when I could get it for around $20. Definitely think there is some bottle variation at play, though. For $20, I’ll risk disappointment when the upside is so great.

Thanks for the note. I have some of this and my plan is to sit on it for quite a while. I have a bottle or two left of 95 and 96, both of which were sometimes so funky young that I thought some bottles might be flawed. Those wines became really beautiful with 10+ years of bottle age and seem to have a lot of life left.

Interestingly, the 05 just after release was surprisingly pure, but I guess it found its true path :slight_smile:

Didn’t want to open a full bottle of wine tonight - and found the remaining half bottle of this in the back of the fridge - It’s still going strong! [shock.gif]

Have you tried the '05 Clos de la Dioterie yet? Unreal wine. One of my faves last 2 years. Had one a couple of nights ago. Popped it on Thursday or Friday when I was in a funk. Not digging it or another fave, Ridge. Went back to it Sunday with grilled meats, and OMG it was so phucking good. Exactly as I recalled all prior bottles. A real stand-out in Chinon.

Hi Folks,

I managed to taste through several of the 2008s and soon to be released 2009s from Domaine Joguet while at Prowein in Duesseldorf a few weeks ago, and both vintages were outstanding. The 2008s are very classic and very, very pure, with wonderful complexity out of the blocks and very wonderful potential for down the road. Anyonhe adding them to the cellar will be really, really happy with them in a half dozen years. The 2009s were bigger, deeper, but seemed a tad less ripe than the 2005s did at a similar stage in their development (though I may be wrong on this count, as I did not note what the actual alcohol levels are on the 2009s),and they seem likely to give the 2005s a run for their money in a dozen years. And I hear a rumor that the 2010s may be the pick of the litter in this extraordinary stretch of wines at Domaine Joguet, so it is an embaressment of riches for the foreseeable future here.
