TN: 2005 Burgess Cabernet Sauvignon Napa

This one if for all the whiners amongst us who say value and quality are unfamiliar stablemates in the world of Napa Cabs.
$30ish and well worth it.

Great structure and showful, this has the crème de cassis and kirsch notes I enjoy with a full mouth feel that is plush, elegant and abrupt all at the same time. A great value in today’s world of runaway pricing. 93/100

Now stop complaining… [gen_fro.gif]

Really? I haven’t enjoyed a Burgess Cab since '95 or '96.

Try it again.

I can do that…once funds are made available again for wine purchases.

Mike,
I know we’re supposed to keep our distance but I agree with you; this is terrific cab. at a very good price. Not overdone in any way, very gentle wood and lots of clean, polished fruit. Sometimes you can even find it in the high $20’s.
Best, Jim

Thanks Jim, I apologize for my abruptness last month.

Back to the wine…
I had the oppurtunity to taste this alongside the '95 and what a difference a decade makes. Chatting with Steve Burgess for 15 or so minutes we agreed on how fantastic a window of greatness our beloved cab truly is in…right now.

i met Tom in the early 90’s while living in Florida, very sweet guy. have had his wine in many vintages, last being 1999 if memory serves. always a classy value i enjoyed the 1991 a few times last year, just a touch fading now. the 1994 is still right in the sweet spot these days.
